Michael Moland
I grew up in a small mining town about 35 minutes northwest of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada called Onaping (pronounced AWNA-ping). I moved to Thunder Bay, ON in 1991 to pursue a graduate degreee in Psychology which eventually led to a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2005. I’ve been teaching university courses since 1993. My areas of interest include neuroscience, cognition, and the effects of drugs on human behaviour. I started riding a Honda CT70 in my youth and explored many old isolated Northern Ontario roads riding with friends throughout my teens.
I have always been interested in motorcycles. My dream bike has forever been a VF500F Interceptor. I might buy one just to stare at it, as I’d be worried that actually riding it might not live up to the fantasy this bike has cultivated in my cortex over the years. I own a Honda CBR125R and a Yamaha WR250R to satisfy my adventure riding spirit. I have way too many hobbies.
I am a big fan of esoteric Canadian 70s music, have 3 trumpets and 3 synthesizers in my studio where I enjoy imagining I can play like Rick Wakeman (but without the cape). I really enjoy backcountry camping and canoeing in Quetico and I recently purchased two Hobie Mirage Adventure Kayaks to enhance the experience. My other interests include mountain-biking on my SC Heckler, swimming lengths, carving up some turns on ski runs, and playing tennis. I am currently a volunteer member of Sleeping Giant Park near Thunder Bay and enjoy hiking the scenic trails and lookouts of the Sibley Peninsula. I also like climbing high points in the Thunder Bay area and exploring old fire towers.
I have two Scottish Fold cats – an orange and white male (Freyr) and a calico female (Freyja).
